Wildlife at Home
Here's a fine feathered friend who showed up one day looking for a nice meal of squirrel, rabbit, or mourning dove.
He/she just perched in the tree and waited for an opportune moment.
A close-up of our large friend
As far as we can tell, it is a sharp-shinned hawk.
In addition to this hawk, we have had animal visitors like:  a herd of deer, a fox, a groundhog, a family of skunks, a rabbit family, a dozen gray squirrels, a pair of red squirrels, and numerous birds such as crows, juncos, cardinals, blue jays, mourning doves, grackles, nuthatches, chicadees, titmice, goldfinches, house finches, purple finches, robins, downy and hairy woodpeckers, red-bellied woodpeckers, flickers, and a lone carolina wren. But not a partridge in a pear tree, although we DO have a pear tree!
