Karen is an avid KISS fan who has been interested in them since she was 7 years old. She's been Gene and Paul for Halloween, decorated her room in KISS pictures and assembled quite a collection of KISS memorabilia. She's attended KISS concerts in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Ohio.
We found lots of bands to agree on this summer in Newfoundland - Great Big Sea, The Punters, Black Sheep and Shanneyganock to name a few. We both hated some too - Gearbox and Ron Hynes. Here's a pic of Karen and I happily sharing a Great Big Sea show in Pittsburgh this summer. She met Alan again and I got to meet Bob!
Karen and I share a lot of experiences together. She's been attending chorus rehearsals since she was 2 weeks old. When she'd get fussy, the piano would always calm her down! I guess that's why we still share many musical interests despite that fact that she is a teenager. Although I don't listen to KISS voluntarily, I have found I can tolerate much of their stuff. And Karen has learned not to play the tunes she knows I wouldn't like! She has introduced me to No Doubt, Matchbox 20, Creed, etc. We both enjoy Broadway shows and have been to NYC to see a few. We both enjoy Ska although I prefer the less hardcore stuff.
One of Karen's favorite pasttimes in summer is to give the neighborhood kids and our younger relatives rides in the cart. Driving the tractor/lawnmower is the closest she'll come to driving till next September! Here she is with the three kids next door (the red-headed ones) and her cousins, Michael and Austin.
Karen's always loved birthday parties since she was an infant. This last birthday picnic/party was no exception. She was 15. We ended up having three cakes! From left to right: A Friendly's ice cream cake, Grandmom's Jewish Apple Cake, Vegan Carob Cake.
