Kevin Sanders
Kevin, along with Pat Ireland, was a founding member of The Etcetera String Band, a well–known Ragtime string group. As a member of The Etcetera String Band for nearly 30 years, Kevin has traveled throughout the country performing at Ragtime and Folk music festivals, including the Festival of American Folklife in Washington, D.C., by invitation of the Smithsonian. He appeared on all four of the band’s highly acclaimed recordings, was featured on a National Public Radio special report on the famous Kansas City dancer “Doc” Brown, was featured in a PBS-TV special The Cradle of Ragtime as well as a concert at Mississippi State University, which aired on PBS-TV.
Kevin has performed, composed and recorded in a variety of musical styles throughout his career. He has played trumpet in both a marching band and a Jazz band, is active in his church choir and accompanies Pat Ireland at old-time fiddle contests (sometimes, they actually win!). He has published a folio of seven pieces for piano titled, Pound That Melody! As a music researcher, Kevin has published articles in the Rag-Times and the Kansas City Rag-Time Revelry, has given symposiums and was interviewed for Uniquely Kansas City, a documentary on the history of the arts in Kansas City, produced by the local PBS station KCPT-TV. |
