I often wonder what happened to Don Cole. To me, at least, he had a startling physical resemblance to Prince Charles. I can't see Prince Charles on TV (which happens all too often) without thinking of this boyhood friend.
The schools in Kearny were still on a semester system instead of a year system. There were only 12 of us in my grade at Roosevelt (Grade) School, so our class would always share a teacher and a classroom with another class, either a half-year ahead of us or a half-year behind us. Therefore, the 12 of us always sat on the same two rows of the class, while the other 18 children occupied the other three rows. Of the 12, six were boys and six were girls. During the years Don Cole attended Roosevelt, FOUR of the six boys were named Don or Donald: Don Cole, Don Moss (also a Scout), Don Brown and me, Don Shorock. Thus, the teacher would look to our side of the room and call on Don and.... confusion!
