We had seen Celtic Connection at the Shamrock Festival on our first visit to Newfoundland. We loved their music and wanted to see them again. However, as so often happens when we are in St. John's, there were two things we wanted to do at the same time. We also wanted to attend the SJFAC's Session Night at the Masonic Hall. The two events were only a few blocks apart, so it seemed possible to take in a bit of both, so that's what we did although it was a shame to walk out on such a fine performance.
We did stay long enough to hear one of our favourite songs in their repertoire, Walk in the Irish Rain. This song sounds like a traditional Irish ballad (and occasionally gets identified as such), but it was actually written by a friend of ours, Steve Spurgin. Although many of his songs sound like traditional Irish ballads, Steve actually grew up in Texas and recently moved in Nevada.
