Welcome to the Quotations Department!

This department is run by the team of Bob Bowser, Quotations Manager and Dusty Dahl, Quotations Secretary. We handle commercial plumbing quotations (quotes).

(If you need a quotation from the Heating/Air department or the Waterworks department please see

  • Mike Sadler or Terry Vanover for HVAC quotes, or
  • Mark Pool or Rick Sullivan for Waterworks quotes.)

Requests for quotes come to us in several different ways. The first of every week Dusty scans the "Dodge Report" or Salina Chamber of Commerce's current jobs to be bid listing. Dusty calls the Chamber to either request a job they have listed, or give them the pertinent information from the Dodge Report so the Chamber can call the architect or engineer and have the plans for that particular job sent to them for us.

Sometimes one of our seven outside salesmen will call and request a job to be bid. Often the contractor themselves will call with a request. Regardless of which way a request comes to Bob or Dusty, important information such as the correct name and location of the job, the date it bids, and the name of the architect or engineer are needed to expedite the quotation process. Either Bob or Dusty will gather the information from the Specification (Spec) books and blueprints (plans) drawn up the architect or engineer as to what make, model and size of materials they have specified for the job. Bob then starts the quote by using the vast supplies we stock here at Salina Supply or will enlist the help of numerous factory representatives who fax us their quotation of said items. After this is compiled the quote is faxed to those contractors who wish to bid the job. After the job is awarded to a contractor, they call requesting a set of submittals (shop drawings) compiled by Dusty.

Submittals are detailed reports listing, by picture and description, the exact material we are submitting to the architect/engineer to be used on the job. The material information comes from the quotation Bob submitted to the contractor. The submittals are then reviewed by the architect/engineer for approval. Sometimes the architect/engineer requests some changes in what we've submitted. That results in a "re-submittal" on those changes to be reviewed. They are then returned to the architect/engineer for approval.

Some contractors request Operations & Maintenance Manuals (O & M's) for a job near completion. This set of submittals is more detailed. We submit on anything that has moving parts. A complete parts breakdown and troubleshooting guide (or installation) are compiled for this report. The contractor takes a set and gives one to the architect/engineer and whoever will be doing the maintenance at the job just completed.

This is the main function of the Quotations Department. If there is anything Bob or Dusty can do to help, please give them a call.
