Great Big Sea
Great Big Sea hails from the "tropical island of Newfoundland." The band plays an aggressive brand of Celtic/Folk music to anyone, anywhere, who'll listen, sing and dance! They are well known in Canada, having won many awards over the last 8 years. We are working on World Domination - Resistance is futile!

Road Rage, is the best example of a live album I have heard to date! If you don't have it already, run out and order it immediately from Rounder Records in the US or Warner in Canada. Other US releases are on the Road Rage page.

If you haven't been to a live GBS show, get to one soon as they are touring here again. They just finished an East Coast Tour and will continue in the South and West in a few weeks.. I guarantee the best time you've ever had at a concert! If you can't get to a show, listening to
Road Rage is the next best thing!

Sea of No Cares. It is the more pop-sounding than the others and has the most traditional-sounding songs on it. One would think they would be mutually exclusive but not on this CD. Well worth the price at $13.00 American from Rounder.

The last CD, Something Beautiful*,  is definitely pop-sounding and is indeed something beautiful. There are two trads on the CD, Chafe's Ceilidh and John Barbour.  The rest of the songs are definitely not trad but thoroughly enjoyable. Helmethead, a song about a love-em-and-leave-em hockey player is bound to be the most requested song and it's sung by Mr. Bob Hallett himself! Also available on Rounder as is the Great Big DVD.

Alan Doyle - lead vocals, guitar, bouzouki, energetic bouncy person
My favorite - Bob Hallett -
vocals, fiddle, mandolin, tin whistle, low whistle, accordian, and some others he doesn't play on stage, like bagpipes
If you have a favorite b'y, just click on his picture to take you to a page dedicated to just him.

GBS Live is worth visiting for photos and Newfoundlandia alike.
Sean McCann - lead vocals, bodhran, shakers, guitar, sea shanty singer extraordinaire
Darrell Power -  Recently retired from the band. Mr. "Maximum bass at all frequencies"  has elected to spend more time with his growing family. We will miss him dearly.

I recently found Dr. T's Road Rage review on my computer. What a wonderfully written piece!
Check it out!
Jane in Virginia has also spent countless hours figuring out guitar tabs to the Road Rage songs.

Nick from the GBS Chatroom made an interesting label for Mrs. Murphy's Whiskey. It is downloadable as a T-Shirt Iron-On for those wishing to be identified as a chatter at concerts this summer. Be prepared to see some at the Long Island Maritime Museum!
