Winnipeg Folk Festival
July 5—8, 2007

The Winnipeg Folk Festival is noted for its variety of world music. The food court matches the music. There were food stands serving Thai, Sri Lankan, Mid Eastern and Eastern European foods. Even more notable were the orange plastic plates. When paying for your food, you paid an extra $2 as a deposit on the plastic plate. When you finish eating, you take the plate back to the plate return stand and you are given a $2 coin. The plates are then sent into Winnipeg for commercial dishwashing. Having no paper or styrofoam plates means the trash containers (which are numerous) are less likely to be full. Thus it is more likely that other trash goes into --- and stays in --- those containers. The grounds were certainly the most litter-free that I have ever seen at any festival!
