Main Stage Audience

During the day, there are six stages, but in the evening, all attention turns to the Northern Lights Stage (the main stage). Since festival attendance was over 44,000, that means a lot of people at one stage. To get the best seating, you line up early in the morning. At 8 a.m., they give out tarp numbers. Then, when you enter the grounds at 10 a.m., you can participate in a shuffle (no running permitted) to find your spot which you can mark with an 8'x10' tarp. Then you can go to the other stages until the main stage starts at 6 p.m. By not lining up for the numbers at 8 a.m. but by putting down a tarp shortly after the shuffle, we were about halfway back --- a distance of about 300 feet (the length of a football field). To find their tarp in a large field of tarps, many brought poles with markers on top to find their spots. Many of these were quite creative. Low-back chairs (under 2 feet in height) were the norm. Those with taller chairs sat in a specially designated area. To the east side of the audience, there were trees where many people strung hammocks.
