Don Shorock's 2009 Spring Trip to New Jersey Wednesday, the 18th of March, 2009
Import store
Growing up in Kearny, NJ, we had stores where ex-pat Scots could buy foods and other things from "home". I now live in Great Bend, KS there are stores where Mexicans can buy goods imported from Mexico. In Cambridge, Ontario, Stoyles is a store where ex-pat Newfoundlanders can go for a taste of home. I had to stop!
Downtown Guelph
I stayed at the TraveLodge in downtown Guelph. The owner went the extra mile to accommodate my needs and the location was unbelievably convenient. Within one block:
VIA rail station
Greyhound bus station
Old Quebec Street Mall
Sleeman Centre (hockey arena/concert venue)
The hotel was built in the 1820s but has been thoroughly modernized. Some of us on the GBS On-Line Kitchen Party (OKP) decided to meet at the Fox and Fiddle which was inside the Old Quebec Street Mall.
Sleeman is the local brewery and I enjoyed the slogan on their banners.
Great Big Sea Sleeman Centre Guelph, Ontario
Two nights in a row!!! I can't believe that I had the energy to attend two consecutive nights of Great Big Sea. Last night in Windsor, the 3,000 seats were sold out. At Guelph, the story was the same except there were 4,000 seats. My seat didn't allow the roving I did the night before, but I could see the boys on stage (esp. when I used the zoom on the camera) and I had a great place for an overview of this excited audience. Again, I produced a video that focuses on the crowd. In the US, a Great Big Sea concert is exciting. In Canada, where a large audience knows their role and knows the lyrics, it is something beyond exciting.
The image below will take you to my page about this concert on my Great Big Sea photo album.
