In the late 1950's and early 1960's, my father introduced me to the music of The Weavers, The Kingston Trio, and similar groups. I enjoyed the music of the Chad Mitchell Trio.
During the 1970's, I heard less and less of that music, and really missed it. In 1980, I attended my first Walnut Valley Festival at Winfield, Kanas, and I've been back almost every year since. Each September, I leave cyberspace and spend a delightful week living in a tent and simply enjoying one of the greatest music events in the world. If you attend, look me up: I generally camp near Froggy Mountain Campground and The Fiasco Brothers (from Albuquerque) in the Walnut Grove, down by the US-160 bridge. Mention that you met me in cyberspace! If I'm not at my campsite, and not at a stage, you'll probably find me on Stage Six because I'm a big fan of Spontaneous Combustion.
In August, I now try to get to Sawlog and Strings, a very small bluegrass festival near Dodge City. The rest of the year, I look for other folk music events, using MusiCal. That is quite an impressive service and I'd encourage you to use it.
Another impressive server for folk music fans is DigiTrad. Isn't it nice to put computing power to such a good use?
